EPA and Chicago wilderness to honor top Native Landscaping efforts

CHICAGO (Nov. 13, 2006) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 and Chicago Wilderness will announce the winners of their annual Conservation and Native Landscaping Awards at a Nov. 15 ceremony at Northwestern University.

The awards recognize outstanding efforts by park districts, local governments and corporations to use native plants and conservation measures. Eleven winners will be announced at the ceremony; sites from throughout the Chicago Wilderness region will be recognized.

Chicago Wilderness is a consortium of more than 190 public and private organizations that work together to protect, restore, study and manage the natural ecosystems of the Chicago region. The Chicago Wilderness region is the crescent of land extending from southeastern Wisconsin through northeastern Illinois into northwest Indiana.

The awards ceremony will be convened during the 2006 Chicago Wilderness Congress. The congress will be held at Northwestern University's Norris Center, located at 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston, Ill., 60208. The awards ceremony will be in the Ohio State Room, beginning at 11:10 a.m.
