(Atlanta, GA – October 19, 2006) EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson, Gov. Bob Riley and other state and local officials will join representatives from Jenkins Brick Company to commemorate the opening of its $46 million, state-of-the-art plant located on U.S. Highway 78 in St. Clair County, Alabama.

The plant, named in honor of the late William M. Jordan Jr., longtime chairman of the board of Jenkins Brick Company, will use clean-burning landfill gas as fuel for its brick-making kilns. The gas will be extracted from the nearby Veolia landfill and will travel to the plant via pipeline. This procedure will enable the landfill to send methane to the plant for use, rather than release it into the atmosphere.
