Responding to public requests for additional time, the U.S. EPA is again extending the public comment period on the proposed wastewater Discharge Permits for the Lucky Friday Mine and the Coeur and Galena Mines until August 3, 2001.

The Clean Water Act requires that all point sources discharging pollutants into waters of the United States must obtain an NPDES permit. By point sources, EPA means discrete conveyances such as pipes or man-made ditches. Some pollutants that may threaten public health and the nation's waters are: metals, human wastes, oil and grease, and pesticides.

Those wishing to comment on the draft permit may do so by submitting their comments-in writing-by the new deadline of August 3, 2001 to:
Office of Water Director,
U.S. EPA, Region 10 (OW-130)
1200 Sixth Avenue,
