NHDES Employee Receives National Recognition for Providing Outstanding On-site Wastewater Operator Technical Assistance

(Boston, Mass. July 20, 2009) – Wes Ripple of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) was recently honored with the "2008 National 104(g) Program’s Wastewater Operator Trainer’s On-Site Technical Assistance Award” by EPA. EPA’s Office of Wastewater Management formally acknowledged Mr. Ripple at the annual National 104(g) Wastewater Operator Trainers’ Conference this past June in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Ripple received the award for his outstanding efforts in helping the Town of Bristol Wastewater Treatment Facility attain 1st Place in the “Most Improved Plant Category” that was part of the 2008 EPA National Operations and Maintenance Excellence Awards Program. EPA values the outstanding work of Mr. Ripple and the entire Operations Section of the NHDES’ Wastewater Engineering Bureau for continually providing essential on-site technical assistance to wastewater treatment plants throughout the state of New Hampshire.

“The professionals providing on-site technical assistance to wastewater treatment plant personnel play an essential role in ensuring water quality protection,” said Ira Leighton, acting regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge Mr. Ripple’s on-going contributions and commitment to provide necessary technical assistance to municipal wastewater professionals so they may be able to better protect water quality and public health, as well as to keep New Hampshire’s waterways clean. We are honored to have Mr. Ripple received this well deserved recognition on a national level.”
