OHIO FINISHING COMPANY AND OWNER PLEAD GUILTY

On Sept. 30, LWG Finishing Inc., a Fairfield, Ohio, chrome finishing and polishing company pleaded guilty to filing false environmental reports in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in Cincinnati. In addition, LWG’s owner, Daniel Green of Maineville, Ohio, pleaded guilty to filing the false reports and obstruction of justice. Green admitted he failed to conduct required self-sampling of wastewater discharged from LWG’s facility into public sewers in 1994. Instead, he fabricated reports of laboratory analyses and submitted them to Butler County. Green also admitted that in June 1995 and May 1996 he changed the reports of results of laboratory tests performed for LWG to falsely indicate that the company was in compliance with discharge standards for pH levels. Green said he offered $1,000 to the owner of the laboratory that performed the tests to assist in covering up the false submissions. When sentenced, Green faces a maximum of up to 12 years imprisonment and/or up to $500,000 in fines. LWG faces a maximum of up to $500,000 in fines. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI and the Ohio EPA.
