Acequia increases projected water efficiency across nearly 70 commercial properties

(Dallas, Texas – December 16, 2008) The Environmental Protection Agency recognized Austin-based company Acequia as a 2008 Water Efficiency Leader today for exceeding expectations in water management. Acequia earned its place among the nation’s most innovative water leaders by surpassing its own five-year goals of sustaining measured water reductions from 20 percent to 54 percent across nearly 70 commercial properties.

“EPA commends Acequia for its accomplishments in water use reduction,” said EPA Regional Administrator Richard E. Greene. “Their efforts to conserve water should inspire other businesses, companies, and organizations to improve their stewardship of this precious resource.”

Acequia increased water use reduction by measuring a consumption baseline for all its properties and using this data to establish water management best practices. This resulted in significant water savings at all of its properties.

Since 2006, EPA has been recognizing organizations and individuals with Water Efficiency Leader Awards to help foster a nationwide ethic of water efficiency. This program enables EPA to document best practices, share information and create a network of water efficiency leaders.
