EPA HONORED FOR VOLUNTEER WORK
AT EVERYBODY WINS! CEREMONY

On May 30, EPA received an award for the largest number of volunteers from a federal agency participating in the Everybody Wins! reading program. There are over 100 EPA employees acting as reading mentors at two Washington, D.C., public schools: Anthony Bowen Elementary and Amidon Elementary. Everybody Wins! is a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting children’s literacy and love of learning through shared reading with caring adults. Every week, the Reading Mentors visit the same child at school during the lunch hour where they read and talk together, one-on-one. The employees at EPA, along with 1,600 Everybody Wins! volunteers throughout the Washington area, reach out to at-risk children to help expand their opportunities for success, both in school and in life. As caring adult mentors, the volunteers help to ensure that these children receive the support and guidance they need in order to be successful. This is the agency's third year participating in this volunteer initiative. If you have additional questions, contact Andrea Arnold, who coordinates the program for EPA, at 202-260-8807.
