EPA Celebrates Earth Day; Agency encourages Americans to take action on climate change

DALLAS – (April 22, 2014) This Earth Week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is empowering Americans across the country to act on climate change through simple actions to reduce carbon pollution in their daily lives.

Across the country, EPA will be holding events to talk about common-sense action to reduce carbon pollution and promote a cleaner energy economy while ensuring that all Americans have the information they need to act on climate change. You can reduce emissions through simple actions like changing a light bulb, powering down electronics, using less water, and recycling.

Use EPA's personal greenhouse gas emissions calculator on EPA’s climate change website, www.epa.gov/climatechange, to estimate your household's annual emissions and find ways to reduce them. There is even a calculator for kids at www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids.

Today, EPA Regional Administrator Ron Curry and EPA staff participated in an Earth Day webcast with NASA’s Digital Learning Network. The webcast’s theme of climate change featured interactive data from satellites on a high-definition climate simulation hyperwall.

On April 26 and 27, EPA employees will volunteer at the Earth Day Texas event at Fair Park, in the heart of Dallas. More than 60,000 guests are expected to attend and enjoy 600 interactive exhibits from schools, businesses, and non-profit organizations, as well as presentations from environmental leaders.
