(Boston, Mass. - Aug. 2, 2010) - EPA New England announces the release of the Proposed Plan for cleanup of the Mottolo Superfund Site. An informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in the Raymond High School Cafeteria, 45 Harriman Hill Rd, Raymond, NH 03077. EPA representatives will present the proposal and discuss the various cleanup alternatives considered but not selected. Representatives will also be available to answer questions from the public.

The Mottolo Pig Farm Superfund Site in Raymond, NH includes about 50 acres of primarily undeveloped, wooded land and is surrounded on all sides by rural residential neighborhoods. The former pig farm was in operation from 1975 to 1979, at which point the Site was discovered and studied by NHDES and brought to the attention of the EPA. The Site was used as a liquid/solid disposal site by the owner and was found to contain hazardous substances. As initial treatment of the Site was deemed unsuccessful after the third five-year review in 2008, EPA has developed a proposal for clean up. Copies of the plan will be available at the informational meeting and can be found online at www.epa.gov/region1/superfund/sites/mottolo.

EPA is accepting public comment on Mottolo Superfund Site cleanup proposal until September 4, 2010. Comments on the proposal can be sent via email or mail.
