ILLINOIS ASBESTOS ABATEMENT COMPANY OWNER SENTENCED

On Sept. 26, Robert G. Cooley, owner of I.P.C., an asbestos abatement training and certification company in Northbrook, Ill., was sentenced to 52 months in prison. His sentence is to be served concurrently for a conviction on one count of bank fraud and one count of mail fraud on July 15, 1996. Cooley operated illegal scheme to sell asbestos abatement accreditation certificates through the mail to individuals without requiring the recipients to undergo any training. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, EPA’s Inspector General’s Office and the FBI.
