(Boston, Mass. January 28, 2009) – The MCI-Norfolk, Mass. Wastewater Treatment Facility was recently selected by EPA for a regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.
The staff of the MCI-Norfolk facility, led by Chief Operator Michael Delaney, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the plant. This facility was among four other plants located in New England acknowledged for their performance during 2008. The Central Regional Office of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was instrumental in nominating this facility.
“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential players in keeping our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve,” said Ira W. Leighton, acting regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.
The EPA Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor the employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality with outstanding plant operations and maintenance and on-going operator training. This award program has found that particularly with smaller facilities, conscientious operators and staff continue to perform exceptionally with limited resources.
The MCI-Norfolk wastewater treatment plant staff and facility were acknowledged on January 28th at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.
