U.S. EPA ADMINISTRATOR CAROL BROWNER TO ADDRESS
THE URBAN LAND INSTITUTE’S INCENTIVES FOR SMART GROWTH SYMPOSIUM
Browner to Outline Administration Actions to Build
Livable Communities Into the 21st Century

U.S. EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner will address The Urban Land Institute’s Incentives for Smart Growth Symposium on Monday, April 19, at 9 a.m. in Chicago, Ill. on Clinton Administration efforts to build livable communities into the 21st Century. Administrator Browner will discuss the new Livability Agenda, announced by the President in his State of the Union Address, which provides new innovative tools and resources to help communities grow in ways that ensure a high quality of life and strong, sustainable economic growth. As part of this new effort, Administrator Browner also will discuss the Better America Bonds initiative, a new financing tool that would generate $9.5 billion in interest-free bonding authority over five years for communities to preserve green space, create or restore urban parks, protect water quality, and clean up brownfields – our nation’s abandoned, industrial properties.
The Incentives for Smart Growth Symposium is being convened by the Urban Land Institute and Chicago’s Campaign for Sensible Growth for the purpose of bringing together real estate developers, home builders, environmentalists, public officials, citizens and lenders to discuss policies that protect public health and the environment while growing the economy.
