EPA Energy Star 'Cool Your World Campaign' Can Help Consumers, Businesses Save More Energy and Money

(Kansas City, Kan., May 23, 2006) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has developed more ways for consumers and businesses to save more energy and money with the new ENERGY STAR Cool Your World Campaign.
EPA Region 7 Administrator Jim Gulliford said, “Families can be more effective protecting the nation’s environment and conserving energy resources. The average family spends $1,900 a year on energy bills, nearly half of which goes to heating and cooling. EPA’s new interactive tool, ENERGY STAR at Home, shows consumers how they can make energy-efficient improvements in each room of their homes.”
ENERGY STAR @ Home is a brand-new virtual tour where homeowners can find areas for improvement and learn how they can use energy more efficiently to save more money and enjoy year-round comfort in their homes.
EPA also has tips for businesses to save more energy and money. The Agency is encouraging more businesses to improve their energy efficiency by taking five simple steps to protect the environment this summer and beyond.
EPA started the ENERGY STAR program in 1992 to help businesses and consumers protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.
More than 8,000 organizations participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $12 billion in 2005 alone and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 23 million vehicles.
