(Boston, Mass. January 28, 2009) – The Henniker, NH Wastewater Treatment Facility was recently selected by EPA for a regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award.

The staff of the Henniker facility, led by Superintendent Kenneth Levesque, Chief Operator Mary Dowse and Operator Michael Colby, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in operating and maintaining the facility. The plant was among four facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2008. The Operations Section of the Wastewater Engineering Bureau of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services was instrumental in nominating this facility.

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are key to keeping our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve,” said Ira W. Leighton, acting regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.

The EPA Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor the employees of the publicly owned wastewater treatment plants that standout for their commitment to improving water quality. More often than not and particularly with the smaller facilities, dedicated and conscientious operators and staff continue to perform exceptionally well with limited resources.

The Henniker wastewater treatment plant staff and facility were acknowledged for the third time in this award programs’ 24 year history for their exemplary performance. This year’s award ceremony took place on January 28th at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.
