EPA's NATIONAL ENFORCEMENT TRAINING INSTITUTE COORDINATES FEDERAL TRAINING SYMPOSIUM

Over 160 federal government representatives and contractors representing more than 40 federal agencies participated in a two-day symposium April 29-30 in Washington, D.C., to increase their knowledge about government-owned educational training technologies and to learn new ways of expanding and sharing those technologies with counterparts at federal, state, and local levels. Coordinated by EPA's National Environmental Training Institute (NETI), the symposium focused on ways government agencies can eliminate duplication of efforts and significantly reduce costs of delivering technology by building on existing government resources. The symposium included a presentation by Robert Stone, project director of Vice President Gore's National Performance Review, and contained 30 workshops with hands-on experience with technology training tools covering the use of federally owned distance-learning facilities, the availability of various technology formatting and distribution options and suggestions on how to make sound decisions about investments in educational technology. In addition to EPA's NETI, other symposium sponsors included the Defense Acquisition University, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Human Resources Development Council, and the National Technical Information Center.
