EPA Announces Public Hearing on Clean Water Act Objection for Dayton Power and Light J.M. Stuart Station Permit

CHICAGO (Feb. 16, 2011) – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing and comment period on its objection to a draft water discharge permit for a power plant near Dayton, Ohio.

The draft permit is for the Dayton Power & Light J. M. Stuart Station, a coal-fired power plant, to discharge into Little Three Mile Creek, the Ohio River and Buzzard’s Roost Creek. Written and oral comments will be accepted at the public hearing: Wednesday, March 23, 2011; 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Reading Room, Southern Hills Career & Technical Center; 9193 Hamer Road, Georgetown, Ohio.

EPA objected to thermal, or heat, limitations contained in a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit under the Clean Water Act developed by Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

Sign-in will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a brief presentation at 7:30 p.m. Oral comments will generally be heard in the order speakers sign in and written comments will also be accepted. Comments may be submitted in writing during the public comment period from Feb. 17 through April 7, 2011.
