PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented its Equal Employment Opportunity Award to Catherine King, a Swarthmore resident.

King, an environmental protection specialist in the Water Protection Division, was honored because she has made significant contributions in promoting equal opportunity in EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

“She has demonstrated effective leadership skill, imagination, and perseverance in extending equal opportunities to all employees,” said last year’s winner, Mike Frankel, who made the announcement during the region’s May 11 employee recognition ceremony.

King is the manager of the American Indian/Alaskan Native Special Emphasis Program. The purpose of special emphasis programs is to ensure equal opportunity in hiring, advancement, training, and treatment of women and minorities.

EPA’s mid-Atlantic region covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
