EPA AND DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE SIGN AGREEMENT TO EVALUATE NEW ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES

On July 21, EPA and Department of Defense (DOD) signed an agreement to collaborate on a program to test new commercial-ready environmental technologies. When private companies develop new technologies for better environmental pollution prevention, control, and monitoring, it is to their advantage to have an objective third-party tester verify the product’s performance. EPA and DOD are now joining forces to verify technologies through EPA’s Environmental Technology Verification Program (ETV) and the DOD’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program. This will allow companies that make better, faster, cheaper technologies to penetrate markets of interest to both EPA and DOD. After the technology is tested, the companies will receive a verification report that they can use when they market their products. The results of the testing will also be made available on the Internet. This agreement will provide a formal mechanism for EPA and DOD to collaborate on technology evaluation, verification, reporting and technology transfer activities. It will save time and expense for both Agencies, while supplying the public with information on new technologies which is currently unavailable. More information on this program is found at: https://www.epa.gov/etv.
