NEW ENGLAND EPA ADMINISTRATOR WILL TOUR QUINNIPIAC REGION ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13

BOSTON - John P. DeVillars, EPA's New England Administrator, will be in Connecticut on Wednesday, Oct. 13, to tour the Quinnipiac River watershed area. DeVillars will visit with local and state officials, including Arthur J. Rocque Jr., commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, and State Rep. Mary Mushinksy of Wallingford.

Media are invited to attend the following events with DeVillars:

    • 10:15-11:15 am: Harbor Brook flood control plan, Meriden. Phil Ashton, chair of Meriden's Flood Control Commission, will present the town's Harbor Brook flood control plan. (Meet at the recreation pavilion next to the brook at the "Harbor Towers" apartment complex on Hanover Street).
    • 11:30 am-1 pm: Linear Trail Dedication Ceremony and luncheon, Wallingford Rep. Mushinsky, DeVillars, Rocque, local environmental activists and members of the Quinnipiac River Watershed Partnership will be at ceremony for Quinnipiac River Linear Trail. Participants will be invited to tour the trail and take canoe rides on the river. (Meet at Community Lake Park, off Exit 65 off the Wilbur Cross Parkway).
    • 1:15-3 pm: Quinnipiac River salt marsh tour, North Haven. Nancy Rosenbaum, chair of the Quinnipiac Partnerships's salt marsh work group, and local experts will lead tour of salt marsh area for DeVillars and Rocque. (Meet at "park and ride" lot on east side of State Street, off Exit 10 off I-91).
    • 3:15 to 4 pm: Pharmacia & Upjohn Co. in North Haven. EPA site manager will conduct tour of hazardous waste clean up project. (Meet in parking lot at main entrance at 41 Stiles Lane).
