BOSTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection are hosting a public information meeting on Wednesday, July 11th at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Trahan Elementary School on Salem Road in Tewksbury to update the community on the current status of the Sutton Brook Disposal Area site (former Rocco's Landfill) and future cleanup activities.

The site was added to EPA's superfund list last week, putting it on EPA's list of the most contaminated sites in the country, and making it eligible for federal funds and oversight. The former landfill was operated between the early 1950s and the1980s. It includes the parcel of about 100 acres on which the landfill and an adjacent drum disposal area are located. During its operations, the landfill accepted municipal, commercial and industrial wastes. Buried drums and associated soil contaminated with volatile organic and semi-volatile organic compounds are a source of continuing contamination to the area.
