Charleston County to Receive EPA Grant For Pollution Reduction

(ATLANTA – July 28, 2008) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will award a Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) grant to improve community environmental health in Charleston County, S.C. CARE grants support communities in creating and using collaborative partnerships to reduce exposure to pollution.

Who: EPA Region 4 Deputy Administrator Russell Wright and Assistant Regional Administrator Wanda L. Johnson; Tim Scott, Charleston County Council Chairman; Charleston County Building Services Director Carl Simmons and Project Officer Joni Rennhack.

When: Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from 7 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.

The EPA CARE program is a competitive grant program that offers an innovative way for communities to take action to reduce toxic pollution. Through CARE, communities create local collaborative partnerships that implement local solutions to reduce releases of toxic pollutants and minimize exposure to toxic pollutants.
