New Mexico Works to Fight Climate Change in Fisheries

(DALLAS – April 22, 2011) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $171,897 to the New Mexico Environment Department to restore, protect and enhance water quality for Jaramillo Creek in North-central New Mexico. The project is a river restoration endeavor which will reduce temperature and sediment, allowing the river to be used as a coldwater fishery.

Climate change is an integral part of ecosystems and organisms have adapted to their regional climate over time. Climate change has the potential to alter ecosystems and the resources they provide.
