NEW EPA WEBSITE HIGHLIGHTS POLLUTION PREVENTION SUCCESS STORIES

A collection of more than 100 success stories in pollution prevention are available in an easy-to-use design on a new EPA website. The success stories can be accessed in a flexible format, including sorting by chemical, industry, location, pollution prevention technique, or by key word search. The stories were compiled by companies that participated in EPA’s 33/50 Program, a voluntary program that resulted in reductions of more than 750 million pounds of waste, including pollution releases to the air, water and land. Each story highlights select achievements in pollution prevention, including both technological and managerial changes. Details also are provided on techniques for evaluating materials for chemical substitution, assessing costs and benefits of pollution prevention, and empowering staff to identify and implement changes. The new website is available on the Internet at:
www.epa.gov/opptintr/3350. For more information on the 33/50 program, contact David Sarokin at 202-260-6369 or sarokin.david@epamail.epa.gov.
