EPA to fund underground tank cleanups in metro area

Denver -- City and State officials will clean up four sites with known or suspected contamination from abandoned underground storage tanks (USTs) in the northeast metro area with the help of $100,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The project is part of a national program announced earlier today in Philadelphia by EPA Deputy Administrator Linda Fisher. Nationally, some 40 sites will share in $3.8 million targeted at cleaning up gas and petroleum tanks at idle or abandoned commercial properties.

The sites are in Northeast Park Hill and Sunnyside Acres in the vicinity of I-70 and 38th Avenue. The cleanups are intended to remove gasoline or petroleum contamination and boost economic redevelopment in the areas.
