MASSACHUSETTS METAL PLATING COMPANY PLEADS GUILTY FOR VIOLATING THE RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND RECOVERY ACT

On March 30, Mystic Plating Inc., of Medford Mass., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in Boston to improperly storing over 10,000 pounds of electroplating sludge and more than 24,000 pounds of corrosive wastes in violation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Mystic Plating provides a variety of metal finishing services including: anodizing, chromating and electroless nickel plating. Under the plea agreement, the defendant will pay a fine of $100,000. In addition, Mystic has already published two advertisements in metal plating trade journals stating it will not improperly store hazardous wastes again. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.
