EPA NAMES 41 CITIES AND INSTITUTIONS FOR

WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE AWARDS

On Oct. 17, 1994, EPA's Ninth Annual Wastewater Management Excellence Awards were announced in Chicago at the Water Environment Federations' annual conference. EPA Office of Water officials presented 41 wastewater excellence awards in the following categories: Operations and Maintenance, Beneficial Use of Biosolids, Pretreatment Management, Storm Water Control Management, and Combined Sewer Overflow Control Management. Municipal Plant Operations and Maintenance: Appleton, Minn.; Coalville, Utah; Duckett Creek-St. Charles, Mo.; Gladewater, Texas; Papillion Creek-Omaha, Neb.; Roberto Bustamante-El Paso, Texas; Pinery-Douglas County, Colo.; Stowe, Vt.; Falkenburg-Hillsborough County, Fla.; Hillsboro, Ore; Moorhead, Minn.; Cross Creek-Fayetteville, N.C.; Plant #2-Wichita, Kan.; Redfield, S.D.; South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Fred HerveyEl Paso, Texas; New Shoreham, R.I.; and Cedar Key, Fla.. Municipal and Institutional Biosolids Use: Cumberland County, N.J.; New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Columbus, Ohio; Salem, Ore.; Reedy Creek, Fla.; Ohio State School of Natural Resources, Columbus, Ohio; USDA Rocky Mountain Experiment Station, Albuquerque, N.M.; Broward County, Fla.; Northwest Biosolids Association, Seattle, Wash.; Maine Wastewater Control Association, Augusta, Maine; and Ozyboyd Environmental Services, Atlanta, Ga.. Municipal Pretreatment Management: Portland Water District & and City of Westbrook, Maine; Borough of Catasauqua, Pa.; City of Beloit, Wis.; City of Sunbury, Pa.; City & County of San Francisco, Calif.; City of Warren, Mich.; City of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Orange County, Calif. Municipal and Industrial Storm Water Control: Stafford Township, N.J.; Alameda County, Calif.; Motorola Inc-Austin, Texas; and Hershey Foods-Hershey, Pa. Municipal Combined Sewer Overflow Control: Chicago, Ill., and Lansing, Mich. Winners demonstrated that they implemented and developed outstanding and innovative environmental management practices. Each winner received a plaque inscribed by and a certificate signed by EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner.
