THROOP, Pa. - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing on the proposed remedy for the Marjol Battery site at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the Throop Borough Civic Center.

Individuals interested in testifying should notify EPA by January 10 by either writing to: EPA, Sibyl Hinnant, Project Manager, 1650 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19103; or by calling EPA at (215) 814-3417; or faxing notification to (215) 814-311; or e-mailing Hinnant at hinnant.sibyl@epa.gov.

Individuals who do not pre-register will also be able to speak at the hearing if time permits. A time limit may be placed on testimonies to ensure equal time for all pre-registered speakers. Persons unable to attend the meeting can submit written comments to the project manager by Jan. 15, 2000, the last day of the comment period.

The administrative record, which contains all documents that EPA considered in selecting the proposed remedy, is available for public review at the Throop Borough municipal building.

After consideration of all comments received, and consistent with all applicable regulations and requirements, the EPA will make a final decision.

EPA has worked with Gould Electronics since 1988 to clean up the site and nearby residential properties that were once contaminated with lead. Lead contamination resulted from battery recycling operations at the site by the now defunct Marjol Battery and Equipment Company for 18 years between 1963 and 1981.
