EFFLUENT GUIDELINES ISSUED FOR CERTAIN LANDFILL DISCHARGES
EPA has issued final discharge limitations (called effluent guidelines) under the Clean Water Act for solid and hazardous waste landfills. The final rule establishes technology-based effluent limitations for wastewater discharges from new and existing landfills that discharge directly into waterways. It does not apply to landfills that discharge wastewater into a publicly owned treatment works. The new rule is expected to provide increased protection to human health and aquatic life by reducing pollutants discharged annually by 900,000 pounds.
