$291,000 Grant to Boone, Iowa, for Sewer Project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., June 2, 2010) - EPA has awarded $291,000 to Boone, Iowa, for funding the final phase of a sanitary sewer replacement project.

EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks said, “Awarding these water infrastructure funds will help to ensure that our water systems are clean, safe and sustainable for our families, children and grandchildren. EPA is dedicated to preserving our water resources and meeting the water infrastructure needs of Iowa residents.”

The purpose of this project is to address residential sewer backups that occur during moderate to heavy rainfall by replacing undersized sanitary sewer pipe with larger diameter pipe.

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands for our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
