EPA SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON REGISTRATION REVIEW

In an April 26 Federal Register notice EPA announced its proposed approach for developing a Federal pesticide registration review process required by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and amended by the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) of 1996. Under FIFRA, EPA must establish a program for conducting periodic reviews every 15 years of registered pesticides to ensure that they continue to meet current health and environmental safety standards. This Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking presents EPA’s interpretation of the authorizing legislation, its goals in implementing the statutory provisions and the initial concept of how the registration review program might operate. The ANPRM also identifies several issues that should be addressed in developing the program and invites public comment on these and other issues relating to registration review. The comment period is open for 60 days and will end on June 25. You may obtain an electronic copy of the Federal Register notice at: https://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/.
