National Watersheds Conference in Alaska

What's being called a "Watershed" event in Alaska municipal history is coming to Anchorage's Egan Center and Hilton Hotel, October 26-31. "Watersheds '97" is a six-day environmental symposium offering a wide range of training and educational opportunities for families, professionals and civic leaders.

According to Greg Kellogg, EPA's Conference Coordinator, admission to the first day of the conference is free and open to everyone who has an interest in watersheds and their protection.

"Sunday's activities are geared for families," said Kellogg. "There will be events and programs designed to help people understand what it means to live in a watershed. It will be a day of learning with the emphasis on 'fun'. The rest of the schedule will be rounded out with training and presentations by some of the region's most knowledgeable and engaging authorities on the subject of watershed protection and health."

When: Sunday, -- Noon to 6 pm

Mon. To Fri. -- 8 am to 5 pm

Admission: Sunday, 10/26 --- Free & Open to the Public Monday-Friday, 10/27-31 --- $165 tuition for five full days of training, presentations & workshops.

• Ms. DeeDee Jonrowe, top competitor in 14 Iditarod races, who will lead participants on a basin-by-basin tour of the Iditarod race route.
• Larry Merculieff, Bering Sea Coalition.
• Special: On Monday and Tuesday(10/27-28) morning over 1600 Anchorage and Matsu Valley students will tour the display expo area and participate in wide range of watershed-related educational activities.
