PLATING COMPANY VICE PRESIDENT SENTENCED FOR CLEAN WATER ACT VIOLATIONS

On Oct. 31, Ronald Lee Adams, vice president and co-owner of Yalesville Plating and Metals Processing Co., of Wallingford, Conn., was sentenced to six months imprisonment, one year probation and a $40,000 fine for knowingly violating the federal Clean Water Act. Adams falsified environmental monitoring reports concerning his company's discharge of hazardous wastewater to the Wallingford, Conn., wastewater treatment plant. Adams pleaded guilty on May 1 to four felony counts of violating the Clean Water Act, admitting that he falsified wastewater test results to cover up illegal discharges on four separate occasions between December 1992 and May 1993. The case was investigated by EPA's Criminal Investigation Division and the Waste Management Bureau of Connecticut's Department of Environmental Protection.
