Aventis CropScience Agrees to Pay $9,900 for Pesticide Labeling Violation

PHILADELPHIA - Aventis CropScience USA LP of Research Triangle Park, NC has agreed to pay a $9,900 penalty for violating the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Aventis is the corporate successor of AgrEvo USA Company, formerly of Wilmington.

EPA’s complaint alleged labeling violations in two shipments, totaling 115,000 liters of ingredients for the pesticide Nortron SC. The containers were shipped to the United States in August 1999 from an AgrEvo facility in the United Kingdom.

The labels on the pesticide containers did not have a statement of ingredients and a “keep out of reach of children” warning required under FIFRA regulations. EPA impounded the containers in Baltimore and required AgrEvo to properly label them before allowing shipment to AgrEvo’s Iowa facility for further processing.

FIFRA’s labeling requirements are designed to protect public health and the environment from the improper use of pesticides.

In the settlement, the company neither admitted nor denied liability for the alleged violations.
