EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING PHASE I OF THE REMEDIAL INVESTIGATION AT THE WEYERHAEUSER SITE IN PLYMOUTH, NORTH CAROLINA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2003 in Plymouth, North Carolina to present a proposed treatment action for the Former Chlorine Plant area of the Weyerhaeuser site. The public meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church, 309 Washington Street in Plymouth. All interested persons are encouraged to attend. The Weyerhaeuser plant is an active wood and paper products manufacturing operation located approximately 1.5 miles west of Plymouth. The facility has been in operation since 1957. The Former Chlorine Plant was built in 1951 and operated until 1968. Operations involved the production of chlorine and sodium hydroxide from salt brine.
