EPA TO PARTICIPATE IN A SAFE WATER SEMINAR ON THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 4 and other federal, state, and local agencies will participate in a Safe Water Seminar on Tuesday, October 22, 2002. The seminar will highlight bacteria issues in the metro Chattahoochee River. Featured speakers will focus on a discussion of the problems and consequence of elevated bacteria levels in the Chattahoochee River and what is being done to resolve these problems. The keynote speaker is from the Charles River Watershed Association in Boston. Who: EPA, National Park Service, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Geological Survey, Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, state agencies, local governments and nonprofit organizations. Ways to get involved include learning about local watershed organizations in your area; helping to organize a stream or beach cleanup; talking to schoolchildren about water pollution and what they can do to help.
