EPA to Announce Major Grant to Reduce Air Pollution in Puerto Rico

      (San Juan, PR – Nov. 10, 2014) Thursday, November 13, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck will announce a major grant to reduce air pollution and improve public health in Puerto Rico. Air pollution can create or exacerbate respiratory ailments, especially asthma, which is a serious problem in Puerto Rico. More than twice as many Puerto Ricans have asthma than the general population of the United States and twice as many people die in Puerto Rico due to asthma than in the rest of United States. Asthma rates in Puerto Rico are among the highest in the country.
