EPA RELEASES DRAFT REPORT ON U.S. GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

EPA today announced the availability of a draft inventory of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 - 1997. This report is required of the United States under its responsibilities as a Party to the Framework Convention on Climate Change, established in April 1992 by the Rio Treaty (Earth Summit). Under the Framework, the United States and other developed countries agreed to submit greenhouse gas emissions reports annually to the Secretariat of the Convention. For copies of the document, "Draft Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks: 1990 - 1997" (March 1999), fax a request to the U.S. EPA Climate Policy and Programs Division at 202-260-6405 or write to the following address: U.S. EPA Climate Policy and Programs Division (2175), 401 M St., S.W., Washington, D.C. 20460. The report will also be on the Internet soon at: www.epa.gov/globalwarming/inventory. A notice will also be published soon in the Federal Register announcing the availability of the report and a thirty-day public comment period commencing with the date of publication.
