KANSAS CITY FEDERAL WORKERS KICK OFF LARGEST CHARITABLE WORKPLACE DRIVE TODAY

Federal, military and postal employees across the Kansas City area are kicking off their annual Combined Federal Campaign fund drive today at the Ilus W. Davis Civic Mall in downtown Kansas City. The charitable governmentwide effort is the largest and most successful workplace fund-raising model in the world.

Steve Tanner, chair-elect of the Greater Kansas City Federal Executive Board, said, “This is our time to continue our commitment by giving to all the charities in need in the Kansas City community.”

The need is evident, Tanner said, pointing out that 60 nonprofit charities are attending today’s event to explain their needs and goals. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Every 1 of us … Turning Hope into Reality.”

Tanner said more than 10,000 federal employees in the Kansas City area contributed more than $2.79 million last year and set a goal this year to raise well past $2.8 million.

The top five area CFC beneficiaries last year were Children’s Mercy Hospital, Harvesters, Catholic Charities, American Red Cross and City Union Mission.

Bill Grigsby, voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, will be the honored guest. The CFC kickoff activities begin at 11 a.m. with a charity fair, lunch, games, a Shriners parade, Genesis Drummers, and the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders signing autographed posters. The U.S. Marine Corps will provide the color guard. Activities wind up with door prizes at 1 p.m.
