EPA Announces Availability of Administrative Record for Lakewood Treating Site in Newberry, S.C.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced today that the Administrative Record for the Lakewood Treating Removal Site in Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina is available for public review. The Administrative Record file includes documents that form the basis for selection of the removal action. Documents in the record may include, but are not limited to, preliminary assessment and inspection reports, test results, and the Action Memorandum. All interested persons are encouraged to review the documents and provide comments. The documents will be available for public review during normal business hours at the following locations: Newberry County Library 1300 Friend Street Newberry, SC 29108 Attn: Mr. Tucker N. Taylor U.S. EPA Records Center - Region 4 Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center - 11th Floor 61 Forsyth Street, SW Atlanta, GA 30303-3104 Attn: Debbie Jourdan EPA will accept comments regarding the Administrative Record during the public comment period which begins on February 4, 2004 and ends on March 4, 2004. Comments should be addressed to Jeffery Crowley, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, U.S. EPA Region 4, ERRB, 11th Floor, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30303-3104. At the end of the 30-day comment period, a written response to all pertinent comments will be prepared in a responsiveness summary and placed in the file. The Lakewood Treating Site property is a 71-acre site, and the facility occupies approximately 5 of those acres. The property is located at 13824 C. R. Koon Highway in Newberry, South Carolina. Lakewood Treating operated the facility as a chromated copper arsenate (CCA) wood treating facility.
