EPA workshop to help minorities, low-income apply for grants

LOGAN, Ut.–Community and grassroots organizations can get help in applying for

“environmental justice” grants in a workshop set for January 10 from 1-4 p.m. at the Logan

City Service Center, 950 West 600 North.

The grants are rooted in the idea that no group of people should shoulder a
disproportionate share of pollution. Funds have helped inform residents about environmental
hazards in their neighborhoods in north Denver, for instance, and taught migrant farm workers
and their families about hazards of pesticides in Helena, Montana.

The Logan workshop will focus on:
• understanding the grants process.
• writing an effective proposal.
• what makes a suitable project.
• completing a grant application.

Many kinds of groups are eligible for the grants that range from $15,000-70,000.
EPA invites non-profits, community development, minority, tribal groups, and state and local governments to apply.
