(07/18/03) On July 14, the White House granted EPA a “green” rating for both progress and status of finance management. The rating reflects EPA’s superior accomplishments since the establishment of the President’s Management Agenda in August 2001. EPA has shown its commitment to sound financial practices ensuring that the public money is well spent. Examples of EPA’s efforts include: maintaining accounting and financial management systems that meet the highest government standards; providing timely, reliable financial data for use in managing environmental programs; earning unqualified or “clean” audit opinions on its annual financial statements for the past two fiscal years – the same result is expected for 2003; producing an accelerated Annual Report for fiscal year 2003 – releasing the report by November 15 will beat the legal deadline by a full year; correcting all problems identified earlier under the Federal Managers Financial Integrity Act; EPA now has no material control weaknesses for the first time since the Integrity Act became law.
