EPA Evergreen Award Recognizes Regional Leadership in Pollution Prevention

The Northwest regional office of the Environmental Protection Agency recognized Hewlett Packard’s Corvallis, Oregon site with the prestigious Evergreen Award. EPA’s Evergreen Award recognizes outstanding environmental excellence and leadership in pollution prevention within all sectors of the greater Pacific Northwest business community.

“I am pleased to recognize HP for taking the initiative to adopt a variety of environmentally friendly practices,” acknowledged EPA Regional Administrator Ron Kreizenbeck.

The HP Corvallis site has reduced greenhouse gas and toxic chemical emissions by half over the past several years by integrating a number of environmental initiatives into its operations and manufacturing.

“The EPA Evergreen Award is a great honor to HP and all of our employees who are committed to achieving our goal to reduce our environmental impact, as well as that of our customers, partners and suppliers – in Corvallis and around the world,” said Steve Leishman, global operations manager, Real Estate and Workplace Solutions, HP.

HP’s Corvallis site has implemented several electricity reducing practices and supports commuting alternatives by providing transit passes, promoting car and van pooling, and providing facilities that support walking and bicycling.

During the past five years, the site’s recycling program has diverted 87% of solid waste from landfills, almost twice the state average. The site recycles used packaging, paper, plastic and glass from production operations, and recycles used computer equipment through the HP product take back operation in Roseville, California.

Corvallis is home to HP's Inkjet Supplies and Inkjet Technology Platforms organizations. With nearly two million square feet of modern workspace, the site operations include research and development, production, quality, marketing, administration and infrastructure support.
