Retired Simsbury, CT Water Pollution Control Facility Superintendent Recognized for Outstanding Service

(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 19, 2014) – James Clifton, retired Superintendent of the Simsbury, Conn. Water Pollution Control Facility, was honored by EPA with a "2013 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Excellence Award" recently. Mr. Clifton was selected for the recognition because of the outstanding job he has performed over the years in operating and maintaining the Simsbury facility. Mr. Clifton also has provided training and technical assistance to many wastewater professionals in New England for many years, as well as through his association with the University of Florida Training, Research and Education for Environmental Occupations.

The EPA Regional Wastewater Awards Program recognizes personnel in the wastewater field who have provided important public service managing and operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was instrumental in Mr. Clifton's nomination.

“The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are essential to keeping our environment healthy by protecting water quality. EPA is proud to acknowledge Mr. Clifton's outstanding contributions to help protect public health and water quality for so many years and to give him the credit he deserves,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.
