US EPA Chief, Mexico Environment Minister to Sign Agreement Addressing Border Region Environmental Concerns

LOS ANGELES— On Wednesday, August 8th, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson will join Mexico Environment Minister Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada, Governor of Baja California José Guadalupe Osuna Millán , Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante and other federal, state, and tribal officials in Tijuana to sign the Border 2020: U.S.-Mexico Environmental Program final framework agreement. The eight-year program, developed bi-nationally, will work to address high priority environmental and public health problems in the border region.

The new Border 2020 program will work towards the significant improvements in reducing air pollution, working to improve children’s health and improving access to clean and safe water. As the home to over 14 million people and one of the busiest cross-border trade regions in the world, protecting human health and the environment in the Border Region is essential to ensuring that the U.S. continues to be safe, healthy and economically productive.
