(Kansas City, Kan., March 7, 2011) - Hohn Manufacturing, Inc., of Fenton, Mo., has agreed to pay a $23,776 civil penalty to the United States for selling a canceled version of a commercial disinfectant product whose labeling was also missing legally required environmental and toxicity information.

According to an administrative consent agreement filed by EPA Region 7 in Kansas City, Kan., a representative of the Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) documented the violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) during a routine inspection of Hohn’s facility in February 2010.

MDA’s inspection documented that on at least five occasions between December 2008 and September 2009, Hohn produced and distributed Glidclean 25/150 25% Pine Type Disinfectant under the name of Hohn Pine D.

EPA cancelled the registration of Glidclean 25/150 25% Pine Type Disinfectant in October 2003. Sales of existing stocks of the product by its registrant, Millennium Specialty Chemicals, and by its distributors, including Hohn, were prohibited after January 15, 2004.

The inspection also revealed that the labeling of the Hohn Pine D distributed by Hohn was false and misleading and incorrectly classified the toxicity of the product. The label was also missing a required environmental statement, describing when and under what conditions the product should be applied, used or disposed.
