25-YEAR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT CANDLESTICK STATE RECREATION AREA

WHO: S.F. Mayor Willie Brown, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, U.S. EPA Regional Administrator Felicia Marcus, Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope, S.F. Public Utilities Commission President Victor Makras

WHAT: Hundreds of San Francisco elementary and high school students and other guests will join Mayor Brown, Congresswoman Pelosi, U.S. EPA Regional Administrator Marcus, the Sierra Club's Carl Pope, and state water officials to mark the 25th anniversary of the federal Clean Water Act, and celebrate the clean Bay shores and beaches resulting from completion of San Francisco's 20-year program of wastewater facilities construction, which was partially funded by U.S. EPA grants totalling $621 million.  The event will feature music by the Philip and Sala Burton High School "A Touch Of Class" singers, and dozens of educational booths and displays on water and the environment, staffed by representatives of government agencies and environmental groups.

WHEN: Tuesday, October 14, 9:30 a.m. Press availability and environmental fair to follow at 10:30 a.m.  

WHERE:  Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, near Boat Launch facility.  To get there, take the 3COM Park exit from either northbound or southbound U.S. 101, and follow the signs to 3COM Stadium.  Candlestick Point SRA is on the Bay side of Hunters Point Expressway, across from the stadium.  

IF IT RAINS: In case of rain, call (415) 923-2473 after 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, to find out if alternate location will be used.  The alternate location is the Southeast Community Facility's Community Room, 1800 Oakdale Ave., off Third St. at Phelps and Oakdale.
