PA EPA PRESENT "WAY TO GO!" AWARDS AT RAIL VOLUTION '96

EPA PRESENTS "WAY TO GO!" AWARDS AT RAIL-VOLUTION '96

EPA Deputy Administrator Fred Hansen will present the winners of EPA's Transpor-tation Partners "Way to Go!" Awards, at the Rail-Volution '96 conference luncheon on Tuesday, Sept.10. Rail-Volution '96 which occurs Sept. 8 thru Sept. 10 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert St. N.W., Washington, D.C., will bring together transportation professionals, community activists and government officials from across the nation. On Sunday, Sept. 10, conference sessions will feature the winners of the first-ever "Way to Go!" Awards in three categories. In the category of Integration of Transpor-tation Alternatives into Community Development/Redevelopment, the winners are: Making the Land Use, Transportation, Air Quality Connection, Portland, Ore.; HOP Shuttle Service, Boulder, Colo.; and Chattanooga Electric Bus Program. In the second category of Innovative Uses of Market Incentives, the winners are: Transportation Demand Management Program at Cornell University; Hewlett-Packard Co.'s On the Move Program; and Advantage Rideshare and Option Rideshare of southern California. Winners in the third category, Innovative Uses of Technology, are: San Francisco-San Mateo Videoconferencing/Trip Reduction Project and Proximate Commuting of the Pugent Sound region in Washington. EPA's Transportation Partners program supports local initiatives through practical technical resources and support, a national network of transportation innovators and recognition of successful, local programs. The program's Principle Partners are: the Association for Commuter Transportation; the Bicycle Federation of America; the Center for Clean Air Policy; the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives; the Local Government Commission; Public Technology Inc.; Renew America and the Surface Transportation Policy Project.
