(06/26/2003) EPA Administrator Christie Whitman today issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement that Deputy Administrator Linda Fisher would resign her position effective on July 11th:

“Linda Fisher has been an exceptional deputy administrator of the EPA and has made an enormous contribution to the work of the Agency, not just in her most recent tour of duty, but under a total of three Republican administrations. Her profound commitment to addressing the complex environmental challenges our country faces, coupled with her deep knowledge of how best to address them, has made her an indispensable advisor and a real leader in the work we have done together to leave America’s air cleaner, its water purer, and its land better protected. She is a valued advisor, a trusted counselor, and a good friend. I wish her the very best in the years ahead.”
