EPA Unveils Emergency Response Vehicle

Tour EPA's new 28-foot Mobile Command Post with EPA New England's Regional Administrator Robert W. Varney. The vehicle, part of EPA's enhanced emergency operations capability, is available to be dispatched to the scene of a chemical or oil spill, fires, or explosion hazards that threaten public health or the environment anywhere in New England. Equipped with satellite phones, computers and other communication equipment, and a meteorological station, the vehicle is designed to serve as a field command post at the site of a chemical, biological or other hazardous materials emergency.

Meet EPA environmental engineers recently returned from Texas where they spent several weeks assisting in the recovery of shuttle debris. Hear their stories of what they saw, what they did and how they responded to the emergency needs of the country.
