Southeast Diesel Collaborative Leadership Awards Presented to Ingram Barge Company, Nashville, TN and Miami-Dade County, Florida

(ATLANTA – June 14, 2011) Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator Gwendolyn Keyes Fleming and EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality Deputy Director Jim Blubaugh, on behalf of the Southeast Diesel Collaborative (SEDC), presented Southeast Diesel Collaborative (SEDC) Leadership awards to the 2010 winners during the SEDC 6^th Annual Partners Meeting. The awardees are:

Ingram Barge Company, Nashville, TN - SEDC Industry Leadership Award for

· Promoting sustainability partnerships
· Implementing clean diesel projects along the Mississippi, Ohio, Illinois and Tennessee River Corridors,
· Retrofitted six towboats with diesel oxidation catalysts
· Hosting a public education open house at Mud Island River Park in Memphis onboard the M/V Patricia I Hart

Miami-Dade County, FL Government - SEDC Community Leadership Award for

· Promoting sustainability partnerships
· Utilization of biodiesel fuel,
· Implementing clean diesel projects at the Port of Miami,
· Repowering agricultural pump engines,
· Use of diesel-electric hybrid buses and hydraulic hybrid garbage trucks.

The efforts by the Ingram Barge Company and Miami-Dade County, FL Government demonstrated exemplary leadership in the use of latest clean diesel technologies, and serve as a role model for others to follow in effective collaboration and partnership to reduce diesel emissions.

This is the third year the SEDC Leadership Council has presented the Leadership Awards to recognize exemplary projects in emissions reductions in EPA Region 4. Nominated parties are judged on their effectiveness in meeting the SEDC’s goal to reduce emissions from existing diesel engines and the work done in several sectors to reduce these emissions. Previous years’ industry winners were United Parcel Service and Coca Cola Enterprises and community winners were the North Carolina Solar Center and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Organized in early 2006 by EPA Region 4, the Southeast Diesel Collaborative has enjoyed unprecedented success in bringing together leaders from federal, state and local governments, organizations, industry and academia to reduce diesel engine emissions across the eight southeastern states. Focused on promoting energy independence, a cleaner environment and growing, sustainable economies, this partnership offers wide ranging health and economic benefits to the public fleet, freight and non-road sectors.
